1. COURSE OBJECTIVES

 

This is an undergraduate course that is designed for students in the Faculty of financial and banking. This course aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills in the management of state financial system, the government's behavior and its impact. So this course is related to many sectors, especially financial and monetary fields. This course equips students with the academic knowledge and technical, which focused on four issues: (1) the economic basis of the government intervention in economy; (2) The methods of government intervention; (3) Impact / Influence of the government interventions on the economy; (4) The financial resources to finance for the government's expenditures.

1. COURSE OBJECTIVES 

This course is designed to provide students of all majors with a comprehensive introduction and overview of international finance with emphasis upon monetary and macroeconomic relations as well as capital mobility between countries to explain the real issues in the world and Vietnam relating to the causes of exchange rate movements, the monetary and exchange rate issues and policies between countries, the implications of monetary and macroeconomic linkages between countries, the balance of payments problems, the capital mobility, the international financial markets, the international financial institutions, the financial and banking services integration, and the international monetary system’s issues. This course aims at equipping students with:

- Knowledge about exchange rates, exchange rate determination and exchange rate policy;

- Knowledge about the fundamentals of and approaches to the balance of payments;

- Knowledge about international financial markets;

- Overview of international monetary system and international financial institutions;

- Introduction to recent financial and currency crisis.

Attendance assessments are conducted in the form of class attendance checking, homework assignments, oral presentation, and/or in-class/at-home assignments, etc.

- In-class/at-home assignments:

+ Content: Both theoretical and practical knowledge of the topics have been studied which will be assigned by the instructor.

- Format: At-home assignment.

- Content: Both theoretical and practical knowledge of the topics have been studied which will be assigned by the instructor.

- At-home assignment can be in form of an essay:

+ Format: A 6,000-10,000-words essay will be printed in A4 using Times New Roman font, size 14, 1.5 space, margins of 2.5cm top and bottom, 3.5cm left, 2cm right. 

+ Students will be asked to form groups of max 5. 

+ Content: The essay provides an opportunity for the students to demonstrate their general understanding on topics covered during the course with more focus on chapter 5 and 6. It will also enable students to get into more practical issues such as collecting data and carrying out some basic quantitative estimation. The topic will be assigned by the instructor or suggested by the student with the instructor’s acceptance. 

 

- Evaluation criteria for at-home assignment:

+ Appropriate structure and consistency/logic: 1 point

+ Good presentation: 1 point

+ Reasoned argument and conclusion: 3 points 

+ Scope of research: 1 point

+ Critical analysis: 3 points

+ Good referencing: 1 point

Total: 10 points

- Extra credit: Students, who participate actively, make presentation, do homework well, and respond well to the instructor’s questions and exercises during the lectures, practices, and seminars, can be given an extra credit (bonus point) of maximum 0.5 to summative assessments (mid-term exam) for each time. The maximum bonus in total is 1.5 (Instructors decide to add points).

- Format: In-class written exam in max. 60 minutes. The in-class written exam can be in form of 30-40 multiple-choice questions and/or 02-04 essay/exercise questions (in which, 01-02 theory-based question and 01-02 practical question) (flexible mark for each question). Students are not allowed to use any material during the exam, but are allowed to bring a calculator with you. 

- Content: All the learning outcomes will be assessed in the written examination. Both theoretical and practical knowledge of the topics have been studied which will be assigned by the instructor. 

 

- Evaluation criteria for the exam including 2 parts (multiple-choice questions and essay/exercise questions):

+ For multiple-choice questions: Correct answers of multiple-choice questions will be given maximum of 6 points.

+ For essay/exercise question: Concise answers and good written presentation/A clear and deep analysis will be given a maximum of 4 points.

- Evaluation criteria for the multiple-choice questions exam: Correct answers of multiple-choice questions will be given maximum of 10 points.

- Evaluation criteria for the essay/exercise questions exam:

1. COURSE OBJECTIVES

The current and future challenges for the financial industry are manifold and have far- reaching consequences for the (global) economy due to the importance of the financial system. 1. COURSE OBJECTIVES

This course is designed to provide students with a conceptual framework necessary for analyzing and comprehending the current problems of commercial bank operations as well as examining various aspects of managing a commercial bank. 

This course will examine how the changing commercial banking environment has affected profitability and evaluate bank business strategies. It also helps the student obtain a thorough understanding of the principles and theory of banking institution management including financial performance of banks, asset/liability management, capital adequacy of banks, management of the capital structure, bank earnings, the loan function, the management of liquidity reserves, the management of interest rate risk, credit risk, investments for income, and sources of funds.

1. COURSE OBJECTIVES

The course aims to present a panorama of banking and financial law, which covers principles and rules that govern the relations between States and Credit institutions with other parties in banking and financial fields. 

The course is designed for the program of Finance- Banking with the concentration on banking and finance. It is to give students a general understanding of the rules governing finance and banking, ultimately, provide them with practical skills in legal reasoning and arguing, research and writing on international finance and banking issues. After this course, the students can approach finance and banking regulations which both public and private aspects.  

The course will start with an overview on finance and banking legal aspects, including a presentation of the specificities of fundamentals principals. It will then focus on core areas of public and international finance law which involve the following questions: Who are the actors in the banking and finance legal system and to whom does finance and banking law apply? How is state budget created and its functions? What are the banking activities of credit institutions?  What are violations in banking and finance? Last but not least, what are remedies and punishment can be apply for the violations in the banking and international finance rules?
